You’ll Shoot Your Eye out! Remember that classic movie “A Christmas Story” where little Ralphy wants a Red Rider BB gun for Christmas and his mom says no because she’s afraid he’ll shoot his eye out?
So I’m from the south where we take our Second Amendment right very seriously! I can remember my Dad’s staff taking up a collection to buy me my first gun! Seriously! It was a BB and Pellet gun and I was probably 12. My Dad taught me how to clean it and all about gun safety. We come from a family of hunters where it is common place to go target or skeet shooting. We have a tremendous respect for guns. This was a part of our culture and I have so many great memories with my Dad.
Naturally I would love for my children to have these same experiences, but sadly they probably will not. New Jersey has the third strongest gun control laws in the nation according to a new report from the Brady Campaign. I believe there should be proper background checks and a waiting period, but some of these laws defy common sense.
Are you aware that you now need a permit and registration to own an air soft gun in the state of New Jersey? The Graves Act makes it illegal to possess an Air Soft or BB gun without a permit and there are steep penalties that go along with it. I”m talking about a minimum 3 year jail sentence and fines and possibly even a felony. And your children are no exception! That’s because the Graves Act doesn’t distinguish between an Air Soft gun and a sawed off shotgun or AK 47. In the eyes of New Jersey law they are all in the same category and if caught with one without the proper permits you could be charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. That’s right folks! No more target practice for the kiddos! Whats next? Their Nerf guns and rebel bow and arrows?
A 22 year old in Glassboro, NJ was actually arrested in his backyard target practicing with a rubber duckie when neighbors reported him brandishing a weapon. Police arrived on the scene and he was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and is out on bail awaiting a court hearing.
President Obama just issued an executive action for more gun control in the wake of more mass shootings. He stated: “We understand there are some constraints on our freedom in order to protect innocent people.” Do you hear that? Its the sound of your second amendment rights being chiseled away.
